Problem
Many pre-adolescent girls struggle with body dysmorphia and physical insecurities, especially due to heavy social media exposure. For some, makeup and personal style can temporarily calm these feelings and sometimes, ironically, help them feel more like their true self, or at least a version of themselves they have an easier time accepting.
Design Solution
Mirror, Mirror is a vibrant, fun magazine exploring the creative potential of cosmetics, designed for pre-adolescent girls aged 12 to 14. The articles explore makeup looks and trends to try, accompanied by a reflection on the purpose and significance of these products featured in the introductory article, Understanding the Power of Makeup. It includes photos of models and some of myself in varying makeup styles that each convey different components of individuality and personality, to show how potent the practice can be in influencing self-image and discovering new identities.

Behind the Scenes
Thumbnail Sketch
The original idea for the cover was to have a line or zig-zag down the center of the face, showing a different makeup look on either side. This is why my cover shoot shows two different shades on each eye. Although this idea did not end up as the final, the two eye-shadow colors still express the versatility of make-up, and therefore its ability to stylize features in multiple creative methods.
