Secret Locations in Cape Cod and Islands
On the Cape
On the Cape: Secret Locations on Cape Cod and Islands is a travel guide to hidden places in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The content is divided into three sections, representing themes: Haunted Places, the Whaling and Sea Captains Era, and Architecture. Three locations are included for each theme. Each location features a photo and description, along with address and contact information to encourage readers to take action and visit.

On the Cape reels prospective readers in with recognizable symbolism of mainstream Cape Cod before the secret locations are revealed. The photography initially features admirable vacation snapshots and peaceful images of lighthouses and beach scenes. Once hooked, readers are encouraged to learn about the secret places and experience Cape Cod in a new light. On the Cape is meant to be used actively as a travel guide, with the reader carrying this publication with them as they travel. I explored many of these places in person, accompanying my mother on her travel journalism research trips, and this short publication is a tribute to her work.

Cover Process
For the cover of On the Cape, the image was created through Photoshop, using an original photo taken from visiting the Nauset Beach Lighthouse. This is an inactive lighthouse on the national seashore, recognizable as the logo for Cape Cod potato chips. The process of designing the cover is shown below.
