Problem

When electronics such as phones, laptops, and appliances are discarded, they often end up in landfills. Toxic substances like lead and mercury can damage ecosystems and pose serious risks to both human and animal health. Meanwhile, valuable materials such as metals and plastics are frequently wasted instead of reused. As technology is replaced at an accelerating pace, electronic waste continues to grow, becoming a significant environmental concern.

Design Solution

When electronic repair is made accessible and affordable, less e-waste will be produced. Demonstrated is a mobile app titled Device Doctor, offering two options for users: connecting with a nearby technician or following a repair tutorial for a simple DIY fix. Visually, the app features a soothing experience to eliminate the user’s potential panic. The relaxing atmosphere is emphasized with calming shades of green, which also serve to echo the idea of sustainability and “going green.”
