Problem

University students are struggling to find ways to connect with others outside their program or club, and fit in physical activity in with their busy schedules. Both issues put students at risk of poor mental and/or physical health.

Design Solution

PickUp Pal is a mobile app created for university students to initiate and/or join recreational sports games. Our design team contacted campus sports facilities to find booking options for after-hours time slots. The app allows young adults aged 18 to 22 to find convenient opportunities for physical activities and social interaction. It also increases revenue for facility owners. We leveraged location-based services and real-time data analytics to find ideal time slots for meetups.

Information Architecture

From the home page, users have the option to find nearby games or launch their own and chat with potential players.

Usability Testing

We conducted a survey to test how intuitive the draft was for new users and resolved issues according to their feedback.

Based on the usability survey, most users were using
the app to join a game, not initiate one. This is why
the "Join Game" button color is more prominent.

Color Contrast Check for Accessibility

To meet accessibility standards, black text should not be used against the strong purple background, and white text should not be used against the lighter shade. Instead, white text on purple or
vice versa is best for readability.
