Problem
When electronics like phones, laptops, and appliances are discarded, they often end up in landfills. Toxic materials such as lead and mercury can harm local ecosystems, along with animal and human health. At the same time, valuable materials like metals and plastics are often discarded instead of repurposed. With technology being replaced so quickly, e-waste is growing fast and has become a deep concern for environmental health.
Design Solution
When electronic repair is made accessible and affordable, less e-waste will be produced. Here, a mobile app titled Device Doctor offers two options for users: connecting with a nearby technician or following a repair tutorial for a simple DIY fix. Visually, the app features a soothing experience to eliminate the user’s potential panic. The relaxing atmosphere is emphasized with calming shades of green, which also serve to echo the idea of sustainability and “going green.”
